Have you ever thought about adding trust badges to your dropshipping store? Or maybe you already have them, but you're not sure if you're using them right. Well, wonder no more! In this article, I will guide you step-by-step on why people add trust badges to their store. I'll also go over why people don't like adding trust badges.

Trust badges are there to increase the trust your store visitors have in your store. There are people that will abandon their cart if they have security concerns. Adding trust badges is one of the easiest ways to increase trust and conversion rates for your dropshipping store in 2024!

What is a trust badge?

Let's begin with what a trust badge is.

A trust badge is what it sounds like.

It’s a badge that you place on your web page that increases trust.

You often find them during the checkout process, but more and more ecommerce store owners are placing them on their product pages or homepage.

Another trust badge is the badge that you see when you visit a website that's got a HTTPS (SSL) connection.

See, for example, my blog:

Do you see that little lock there?

That's a trust badge!

Here are some trust badge examples that you might have seen before on a website:

Or think about badges like these:

Awesome, right?

But why would people add these trust badges to their dropshipping store?

Let's find out:

Why you should add trust badges to your dropshipping store

From Statista

Do you know why people add trust badges to their dropshipping stores?

Simple.

To increase the chance that people trust your little ecommerce store.

Cybersecurity and trust people have in unknown websites

Cybersecurity is an ever-growing concern for online shoppers.

Fears about online security could keep shoppers from buying from stores that they don't know.

Here are some interesting facts for you from this study that surveyed hundreds of Americans on their online shopping habits:

  • People can abandon their carts because of security concerns. Did you know that 62% of consumers have started to purchase an item online only to abandon the purchase because of security concerns?
From the TrustedSite Study
  • People don't trust new websites as much as known websites. 95% of consumers have security concerns about providing personal information like their credit card when shopping at websites they have not heard of before, and 92% of consumers have concerns about providing personal information like their credit card when shopping at websites they have not shopped at in the past.

Interesting, right?

This is why you need to do everything in your power to make your dropshipping store look like any other real store.

I'm saying this not because dropshipping stores are not real stores, but because most dropshipping stores don't put in any effort.

They just open a store, add some products, and start advertising.

The funny thing then is that they expect to be rich the very next day or week! (Source)

How crazy is that?

Well...

Don't worry about it.

Because you can beat them by spending more time on your dropshipping store than your competitors!

Awesome, right?

But that's not what this article will be about.

How to increase the trust people have in your dropshipping store

From CXL

So, now you know that security is a big concern of most people when shopping online on websites that they never shopped from before.

What can you do to make these people trust your dropshipping store more?

One of the things that you can do is to add trust badges onto your store!

Do you know why?

Well, this study found out that 75% of consumers would be more likely to purchase from a small, independent website with a trustmark than one without.

Wow!

75%...

That's a lot.

But that's doesn't mean that you can just place a trust badge on your store, which no one ever heard of, and expect to increase the trust people have in your store.

This is because 84% of consumers have greater confidence in trustmarks they know vs. trustmarks they’ve never seen. (Source)

For example, in that same study, McAfee was one of the most popular trust badges:

Plus, their survey found that 81% of consumers say that if they landed on an online store they’d never heard of before, the McAfee Secure trustmark would increase their confidence that they’re on a legitimate and secure website.

So, getting a McAfee Secure trust badge could increase your sales on your dropshipping store!

Another great benefit of trust badges is that it can increase your conversion rate.

In this case study, they will show you how they added trustmarks and boosted their sales by 14% in a 30-day test.

How awesome is that?

Let's continue with why people don't add trust badges to their store and what not to do with them.

Trust badges for dropshipping stores: what not to do and why some people do not like them

Now that you know why people like adding trust badges on their website, it's time to learn why people don't like it!

Plus, I will cover what not to do with your trust badges.

What not to do with your trust badges

Let's begin with the most obvious one.

Ugly trust badges.

Alright, if you've decided to add a trust badge (or more) to your dropshipping store, please make sure it's not an ugly one.

Make sure that the badge fits with the rest of your store design.

For example, you don't want an image with trust badges that contain a green ring around them while the rest of your store design only contains black and red.

Why would you pick green for your trust badges then?

For example:

It looks a bit weird, right?

I've said this before in earlier articles, but if you don't have an eye for design, then please show it to someone else as well to get their feedback!

Just one thing to note with that: the best thing is to ask the feedback of a person you don't know closely.

Because otherwise, there is a chance that they will just say that they like it because they don't want to hurt your feelings!

Don't add more than one trust badge to each product page

Another thing to not do with your trust badges is to add more than one on your product page.

Adding more than one trust badge on your product page doesn't look great, in my opinion.

Of course, you can add more than one in a row like this:

Source

But don't add one of these at the beginning of your product page and then another one at the end.

I will keep this one short, so keep in mind that if you want to add a trust badge to your product page, just add one!

Why do some people not like trust badges on their store?

Some people don't like adding trust badges to their stores.

For example:

Most of the time they are just jpeg don't really mean anything, most of the time they are not even needed. If you looks at any website with visitors over 10m per month, you won't see any trust badges on the product pages.

Look at the average shopify noob, you will see trust-bage-galore.

I know who I would rather copy.

From Reddit

Or this one:

No, they’re total crap. and so are these pop up windows saying that someone’s just purchased something.

I’ve bought this theme from theme forest which allows to fake these recent purchases. i’m not using this functionality but i’m very careful with the websites that do cos you never know if it’s fake.

From Reddit

Do you see now why some people don't like it?

That's why I always like to add two sides to my articles.

So everyone can do their own research, and you know that I won't hide any facts from you!
