The benefits of selling Amazon products on Shopify

310 million people shop on Amazon, and 61% of US online shoppers find their products on Amazon.

It’s a popular destination for merchants and sellers to boost traffic, exposure, and sales.

There is no doubt that Amazon is taking the ecommerce world to new heights. But Amazon is a competitive platform, and as a seller, gaining sales the moment you open a seller account doesn't happen.

A smart decision can be to sell your products through multiple channels. The more locations you have, the more customers are likely to discover your products.

Shopify, AliExpress, BigCommerce, Magento, Walmart, and eBay are popular product-selling platforms.

Among them, Shopify is an exciting venture for creating a storefront without any technical expertise. In the long run, it boosts your conversion rates and brings in out-of-market buyers.

Selling products on both Shopify and Amazon has its distinctive advantage to offer.

However, the Shopify Amazon integration process brings out a lot of benefits:

  • Increases your brand's popularity and gives you a better chance of appearing in search engine results.
  • Generate more sales from both Amazon and Shopify stores.
  • Allows control over the loyal customer base for remarketing. Amazon doesn’t give access to customer details, but you can generate more leads from Shopify.
  • Reserves your inventory and set your own prices.
  • Synchronizes your Shopify account with your Amazon seller account to link product information, images, and variants.

7 Steps to selling Amazon products on Shopify

So, you have decided to sell products from Amazon on Shopify.

We have listed all the processes in seven steps, covering everything from product approval criteria to completing orders. Here are those listed below:

  1. Check for product category approval
  2. Create your Amazon Seller Central Account
  3. Create and connect an Amazon product listing to your Shopify store
  4. Add an Amazon integration app to your Shopify store
  5. Set up your payment gateway
  6. Choose a policy for your inventory tracking
  7. Fulfill orders on your Shopify store

Let's look at the steps in detail.

1. Check for product category approval and eligibility

If you begin with the conventional belief that Amazon is an ecommerce giant, it sells almost everything, right?

Actually, no!

There are some restricted or ungated product categories for specified sellers. So, your first step should be to check out your selected products and get Amazon approval.

2. Create your Amazon seller central account

Create your Amazon seller central account

Before starting, make sure you meet all eligibility requirements to sell your products on Amazon; otherwise, Amazon can’t let you open an Amazon professional seller account.

Now, start with the following steps to create an Amazon seller account:

Once an Amazon account is created, a page will appear where you must enter the following details:

  • Business email address or Amazon customer account
  • Internationally chargeable credit card
  • Government ID (identity verification protects sellers and customers)
  • Tax information
  • Phone number
  • A bank account number and routing number
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (For US taxpayers)

3. Create and connect an Amazon product listing to your Shopify store

If you're a beginner, you must first purchase a unique UPC (universal product code) to list your products on Amazon.

The Amazon UPC is primarily a unique six-digit code used for inventory management, properly cataloging each product, and tracking when and where it is shipped. You can buy it from GS1, an NGO that specializes in global retail product identification.

After creating an Amazon Seller Central account, it’s time to add new Amazon product listings by following the steps below:

  • Check on the Amazon Seller Central account’s menu bar.
  • Click on the ‘Inventory’ dropdown menu and select ‘Add products’.
  • On the 'Add product' page, you can select one of three options.
Add product

First, if you want to add an already-existing Amazon product to your listing search by name or ID.

If it's not listed, select ‘Create a new product listing’ and fill out all the following details:

  • SKU (stock keeping unit) and product identifier (GTIN, UPC, or ASIN)
  • Name, brand, category, details, and images of the product
  • Price and shipping options
  • Product condition, available quantity
  • Keywords, search terms, target audience, intended use

Or if you want to upload products in bulk, you have a third option, ‘bulk upload’.

Now, the Amazon product listing is complete, go to the Shopify profile settings.

If you already have a Shopify store, you can proceed directly; if not, you must create a Shopify store.

Now, connect Shopify to an Amazon listing:

  • Go to the sales channel section from your Shopify profile, then click ‘Amazon’. If Amazon is not listed as a sales channel, you can integrate it with a third-party app.
  • Go to ‘Listings’.
  • Then, click ‘Link products’ > ‘Browse products’.

4. Add an Amazon integration app to your Shopify store

Did you know that importing one product from Amazon to Shopify takes roughly ten minutes?

So, if you've 300 products, it will take 300 x 10 = 3,000 minutes, or approximately 50 hours!

Instead of all this mess, some multichannel integration apps, including CedCommerce, and Codisto, can transfer high-resolution product images and their details in the right format, saving a buttload of time.

Adding an integration-supported app from the Shopify App Store minimizes the stress of importing products, generating traffic, managing marketplace inventory, shipping, and processing orders.

Shopify has multichannel integration apps, for example, CedCommerce. This app functions by creating an API-based communication channel, which not only facilitates the import of all product information but also controls inventory.

Some of the key features of CedCommerce are:

  • Transfer bulk products at once
  • Manage inventory and orders
  • Change the price depending on USD and CAD in the Shopify store
  • Allows product flagging
  • Transfer of product images in high-resolution

Note: From March 30, 2023, Shopify won’t support the Amazon FBA feature anymore, so you'll need to set up an app that supports multi-channel fulfillment.

5. Set up your payment gateway

Setting up the payment gateways is crucial.

You can choose from a variety of payment gateways in Shopify, but you should compare their costs and commission fees first. Some gateways offer more features than others.

Turning now to the payment gateway setup process:

  • Go to the ‘Settings' section from your Shopify store.
  • Select payment processors.
Payment gateway
  • Go to ‘Accept payment’ and select ‘Complete account setup’.
  • Finish the process by entering all the necessary details and banking information.

Depending on your Shopify plan, you may benefit from lower transaction fees if you reside in the US or Canada and can use Shopify payments.

However, if you are from a different part of the world, your prices are significantly higher.

6. Choose a policy for your inventory tracking

Once the third step of the Shopify to Amazon integration is complete, you can use your store's inventory in Shopify for all Amazon listings.

It will be easy to track inventory numbers on Amazon if you enter your Amazon product information and manage your product inventory manually by following these steps:

  • Go to the ‘Shopify inventory setting’ under ‘Inventory.’
  • Select ‘Shopify tracks this product's inventory.'
Choose a policy for your inventory tracking

Or if you want to go the easy route to track inventory, use the third-party integration app, for example, Amazon by CedCommerce from the Shopify App Store.

7. Fulfill orders on your Shopify store

Now, your Shopify store has a product page to sell products.

When a customer buys Amazon products listed on your Shopify product page, you can fulfill the order from your Shopify admin. So, since those orders are marked as ‘Amazon’, you can track which marketplace brings in the most orders.

To fulfill the orders manually from your Shopify account, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the Shopify admin page.
  • Go to the ‘Order details’ section, and click ‘Orders’.
  • Select the order number and the location (if you’re using multiple locations, change according to the order locations), then click ‘Save’.
  • If your Shopify store is based in the US, Australia, or Canada, you can use Shopify shipping to fulfill orders.
  • Choose the shipping service and click on ‘Buy shipping label’.
  • Or if you are using your Shopify store from another country with another fulfillment option for shipping, click ‘Fulfill items’ then ‘Mark as fulfilled’ and enter the tracking number for your shipping provider.

The order screen will then be updated with whether your Shopify orders were fulfilled or not.

Note: Since your products are from Amazon listings, make sure to follow Amazon's selling policies.

Things to consider when integrating your Shopify store with Amazon

The multichannel selling process seems simple but becomes challenging once it reaches the core stage.

While connecting Shopify and Amazon, you must keep in mind some factors to facilitate the way to success in this business.

Competition

No business can grow unless it faces challenges. Both Amazon and Shopify are highly competitive places to run a business and, at the same time, lucrative places to access millions of potential shoppers.

Requirements

After considering its competition, please pay attention to the requirements; otherwise, it will hamper your efforts. These are:

  • You must have your own unique Shopify store where you can add products to the relevant categories.
  • Make sure to create a professional seller account (not the individual one). Shopify integration works better with that, as a result, you can save money, gain access to third-party services and inventory, and apply for restricted categories.
  • When shipping your products, make sure to follow Shopify's shipping policy.
  • Align your Shopify currency to the Amazon store. Set the currency to USD if your Shopify store uses Amazon.com; set it to CAD if you use Amazon.ca. Or if from another region, use a third-party integration app.
  • For seamless integration, you must have the UPCs for each item you sell. It accurately depicts the stock level on Shopify.

Charges

While you’re already selling your products on Amazon, you must pay as a seller to participate in this marketplace. The selling fees vary depending on the product categories.

You'll need a professional plan to integrate your Amazon store with Shopify because Shopify’s basic plan does not offer bulk product inventory management or professional reports.
