Freaky Friday 2 is officially happening, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan back for more body-swapping fun. The highly anticipated sequel movie certainly seemed like it was gaining traction, but there’s nothing we love more than an official announcement. In addition to Curtis and Lohan, Freaky Friday 2 has gained some excellent new cast members, and it has a slated release window of 2025. That’s some freakishly exciting stuff.

Freaky Friday 2‘s Plot

In a release, Disney describes the plot of Freaky Friday 2 as follows:

A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.

More body swapping, ahoy!

Of course, Curtis and Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. But other Freaky Friday actors will be back for more fun. These returning original cast members include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. But Freaky Friday 2 will also see some new faces, including Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. We are very excited to hear Manny Jacinto is Freaky Friday 2 official, especially after his excellent recent turn on The Acolyte.

In addition to the above looks, we also have a glimpse at Chad Michael Murray’s return as Jake.

Finally, Freaky Friday 2 will be directed by Nisha Ganatra.

Freaky Friday 2‘s Release Date

Production on the Freaky Friday sequel began in June 2024. We should expect Freaky Friday 2 to release in theaters nationwide in 2025.

While we wait for Freaky Friday 2 to release, you can catch the original movie streaming on Disney+.

If you were a teenager in the 2000s, then you surely remember the great Disney masterpiece Freaky Friday. Who can forget the hilariousness of a mom and daughter who end up switching bodies thanks to a fortune cookie? It has somehow been 20 years since we saw Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as Tess and Anna, but they are reportedly reprising those roles in a Freaky Friday sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both stars are ready for more body-swapping adventures, with Elyse Hollander penning the script and Nisha Ganatra set to direct.

Freaky Friday 2 Casting News

For now, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are expected to reprise their roles in Freaky Friday 2. Additionally, Variety reveals that Julia Butters has joined the Freaky Friday sequel in an unknown role. But given what we know about the movie so far, we might speculate she’ll play the daughter or future stepdaughter of Lohan’s Anna.

Additionally, Deadline reports that Manny Jacinto is is reportedly in talks to join the movie. We are 100% pro this casting.

More Updates on Freaky Friday 2

Lohan and Curtis seemed to confirm news of the movie with a celebratory Instagram post.

Additionally, Lohan herself confirmed during an Andy Cohen interview that the sequel is happening. She remained mum about any production timelines but said that both she and Curtis were excited about a Freaky Friday sequel.

What Will Freaky Friday 2 Be About?

So, what will this movie be about? Well, Jamie Lee Curtis wants her co-star to be a sexy grandma. In an interview with The View, which we learned about via Deadline, Curtis said, “Let me be the grandma, let me be the old grandma who switches places, so then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma who’s still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon… I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent in today’s world.” We’d love to see it.

Additionally, Entertainment Weekly reveals that newly minted director Nisha Ganatra shared a casting call on her social media for the movie. The casting call revealed that Anna Coleman (Lohan) now has a daughter and that she’s apparently getting married to a man who also has a daughter. Of course, Tess (Curtis) is still involved. Whatever swap is coming up for our favorite ladies, it seems like four people might be included this time.

Of course, there are no confirmed details about the Freaky Friday sequel at this time. But it isn’t shocking that this reunion is happening. During a retrospective interview, both Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan told The New York Times that they were open to a Freaky Friday sequel. And we have seen the actresses in very recent projects, too. Curtis came back as Laurie Strode once again in Halloween Ends while Lohan is back in the spotlight after Falling for Christmas, a very cute Netflix rom-com.

We’re still not ruling out Anna’s daughter swapping places with her while Tess tries to help them figure it all out. No matter what the plot is, we are totally down for a Freaky Friday sequel.

Lindsay Lohan Blends Milk and Pepsi in Pepsi’s Terrible Christmas Commercial https://nerdist.com/article/pepsi-christmas-commercial-pilk-pepsi-with-milk-dirty-soda-lindsay-lohan/ Tue, 06 Dec 2022 17:01:59 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=935991 Lindsay Lohan drinks a "dirty soda" from Santa, in a new Pepsi commercial that is not a Christmas present we wanted this (or any) year.

Until now it has been a joyous holiday season for Lindsay Lohan. She starred in Netflix’s very own Lifetime-esque movie Falling for Christmas. Unfortunately that feel-good film will not be what defines her 2022 December. Instead that (dis)honor will go to her new feel-bad Pepsi commercial. Somehow the soft drink giant has marred the sweet, simple, and seemingly incorruptible act of leaving milk and cookies out for Santa Claus. Because there’s no way anyone asked Kris Kringle for milk mixed with cola.

Titled “That Is One Dirty Soda, Santa,” Pepsi’s new holiday season ad adds nothing to the holiday season. It opens with beautiful home decorated in good cheer. (So far so good.) An unseen person in their pajamas then tiptoes downstairs to where they’ve left half a glass of milk and some delicious looking cookies for Old Saint Nick. (Still good.) However, this is when things go very wrong. (So, so, horribly wrong.) Santa, possibly upset over just getting half a glass, cracks open a can of Pepsi and pours it into the milk.

Obviously whomever Santa left this unholy concoction for is on his naughty list, right? Wrong! Pepsi wants us to believe—as if we could—this is a present for Lindsay Lohan, who gleefully drinks the “Dirty Soda.” We’re then greeted by a tagline only the Grinch (pre-heart growth) could enjoy, “Pilk and Cookies.”

Get it? Pilk, as in “milk + Pepsi.” Yeah, we agree: bah humbug!

Good thing she drank it immediately. Milk and soda eventually curdles. HMMM curdled pilk! God bless us, everyone, indeed.

Look, we know some people actually enjoy this mixture and that’s fine. We all like weird stuff. (Heck, I just praised pecan pie pizza.) You should enjoy Christmas, Pepsi, and milk your own way, just as we’ll enjoy all three like normal people. We’d just prefer to ignore this is a thing some people drink. Not thinking about pilk would be enough of a present this year.

MEAN GIRLS Cast Recreates Phone Call During Virtual Reunion https://nerdist.com/article/mean-girls-virtual-reunion-phone-call-lindsay-lohan-rachel-mcadams-tina-fey/ Fri, 09 Oct 2020 15:51:09 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=759193 Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried recreated the four-way phone call as part of a Mean Girls virtual reunion.

We never would have guessed that a pandemic would lead to so many big name reunions. But ever since we went into lockdown, celebs have been really nice about using this time to host virtual get-togethers. Whether it’s been a look back at their time on set, or to create something entirely new, it’s been one of the few pleasant surprises of 2020. You might even say it’s been so fetch. At least you might when it comes to the latest one. The stars of 2004’s Mean Girls gathered for an online reunion, and they used that as an opportunity to remake the memorable four-way phone call from the film. But this time it was anything but mean, as they reunited as part of a voter registration drive.

Error occurred!

Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried recently joined a virtual reunion with Katie Couric (which we first heard about at ET). The online gathering was held on “Mean Girls Day,” October 3. The entire reunion, which you can watch below, also featured cast members Tim Meadows, Lizzy Caplan, Lacey Chabert, Ana Gasteyer, Daniel Franzese, Rajiv Surendra, Jonathan Bennett, and Tina Fey.

However, as a bonus, Lohan posted an outtake from the reunion. Intercut with footage from the film, she, McAdams, Chabert, and Seyfried recreated the iconic phone call from the movie.

You know the one: Cady’s trying to sow discord amongst the friend group. The scene featured Chabert’s Gretchen listening in on a conversation between Cady and McAdams’ Regina. That was followed by Gretchen calling Seyfried’s Karen, which then turned into an accidental game of misplaced call-waiting, insults, lies, broken-promises, and the best/worst fake cough ever.

Regina is the worst. Which is why we love her so much. The whole Mean Girls reunion was part of a successful voter registration drive. More than 5,000 people registered with the organization HeadCount so they can vote on November 3.

Error occurred!

And that makes this maybe the first time when being a mean girl really was so fetch.

THE PARENT TRAP Cast Reunited for a Virtual Reunion https://nerdist.com/article/the-parent-trap-virtual-reunion/ Mon, 20 Jul 2020 15:10:14 +0000 https://nerdist.com/?post_type=article&p=736440 The cast and crew of The Parent Trap starring Lindsay Lohan virtually reunited to discuss the beloved film and raise money for a very good cause.

Quarantine isn’t fun. But at least we have been using all this free time to virtually connect with old friends. And celebrities have been doing the same thing. Social distancing has provided an opportunity to digitally reunite casts and crews from beloved films and shows. The Back to the Future cast held a virtual reunion, as did The Lord of the Rings stars. We at Nerdist even got the whole Hannibal crew together for a massive online sit-downNow, the stars and creators of the beloved 1998 family comedy The Parent Trap starring Lindsay Lohan (twice) virtually reunited to look back at the film. For the first time ever.

And they did it for a very good cause.

Error occurred!

Katie Couric moderated a The Parent Trap reunion on her Instagram page (which we first learned about at Variety). In addition to Lohan (who played both Annie and Hallie), she was joined by director Nancy Meyers, Simon Kunz who played the James family’s butler Martin, Lisa Ann Walter who starred as Hallie’s nanny Chessy, Elaine Hendrix who played the movie’s villain Meredith Blake, Dennis Quaid who starred as Annie and Hallie’s dad Nick, and writer and producer Charles Shyer.

During the feel-good reunion they discussed the casting process and what it was like working on the film. They also shared their favorite moments and scenes. And they talked about the movie’s lasting legacy. Lohan also explained what it was like playing both young girls, including how “each” was treated differently on set.

Everyone also shared fond memories of the late Natasha Richardson, who sadly passed away in 2009. She starred as Annie and Hallie’s mother Liz.

In addition to being a great event for fans, this reunion helped raise funds for Chef Jose Andrés World Central Kitchen charity. World Central Kitchen helps feed people in need around the globe. It’s also one of our favorite organizations. You can donate $10 to it by texting PARENT to 80100 or you can contribute by going to wck.org/parenttrap.

Even Meredith Blake would support that. And if she didn’t, Annie and Hallie would figure out how to make her donate without her realizing it.
