Why should you get product reviews on your Shopify store?

Let's start with this one; why should you get these product reviews in the first place? Are there any benefits to adding them?

Well, yes! Adding reviews to your online store has lots of benefits. I will go over four of them below.

Benefit 1: Increase conversion rate

Are you interested in increasing your conversion rate? Well, a great place to start is by adding reviews to your store!

The benefit of having product reviews on your Shopify store is that it can increase your conversion rate. For example, Reevoo saw a 18% uplift in sales.
Source

Yes, I understand, reviews might not be the first thing you think about when you're looking to increase your conversion rate, but I think this list of studies collected by CXL will change that:

  • Reevoo found that 50 or more reviews per product can mean a 4.6% increase in conversion rates.
  • According to a study from iPerceptions, 63% of customers are more likely to make a purchase from a site that has user reviews.
  • Bazaarvoice found that site visitors who interact with reviews and customer Q&As are 105% more likely to purchase while visiting (and spend 11% more than visitors who don’t interact with user-generated content).
  • eMarketer found that consumer reviews are more trusted (nearly 12 times more) than manufacturer descriptions.
  • According to Reevoo, reviews produce an average of 18% uplift in sales.

Awesome, right?

The thing is that increasing your conversion rate isn't the only benefit of adding reviews to your Shopify store. It has many more benefits, like helping you build trust in your store.

Benefit 2: Increase trust

The second benefit is that it increases trust in your Shopify store. This one flows in well with the first benefit that it increases your conversion rate.

One study found that 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations, and 72% of consumers say positive reviews make them trust businesses more.

Millennials, in particular, trust user-generated content 50% more than other media.

These numbers make you want to have reviews in your store already, right?

Benefit 3: Rank higher on Google

If you correctly enable your reviews to be displayed on Google, then it can help you to rank higher on Google. This is great if you're focussed on SEO for your Shopify store.

But why do these reviews help to rank higher?

Well, let's start by taking a look at the image below. Which one looks more attractive to click on:

But that's not all, a study from CXL showed that reviews could boost CTR by as much as 35%.

Another thing is that reviews are, according to a study from Moz, a top-ranking factor for local businesses.

Benefit 4: Reviews can help you improve your business

Both positive and negative reviews can help you improve your business. You might know that about positive reviews, but did you know that negative reviews can also help you?

Look, there can be a good side to negative feedback because those poor reviews may uncover a business issue, process, or employee problem that you might not have noticed otherwise.

If you have a negative review, then take a look at what you can improve. Don't just let it be or get angry at that person for leaving a negative review...

How to add and collect product reviews on your Shopify store?

Are you convinced now that having reviews is a must-have for any online business?

If so, then let's go over how you can add and collect these product reviews on your Shopify store.

The easiest way to add and collect reviews on your store is by installing a Shopify app from the Shopify app store.

How to add and collect product reviews on your Shopify store? Simple! The Shopify app store.

You don't need to do any research on which review apps are out there, because I will show you the best Shopify product review apps in 2024 below! Awesome, right?

The great thing is that all of the apps that I will show below have free trials or free account options available. This way, you can check them out by your self as well so you can make the best decision for your store.

One example is that everyone's "design taste" is different. I might find one app really nice and easy to use while others don't.

Another thing to look at are the features of the app. Some have a lot more features than just adding customer reviews to your product page. For example, most of the apps that I will cover below will also help you collect and display product reviews with pictures.

Here is an example of how the product reviews will look on a product page

If you don't have any customers yet, then don't worry, I got you covered below with some awesome tips on getting your first reviews!

The 3 best Shopify product review apps in 2024

Alright, let's begin with the three best Shopify product review apps that you can use for your store.

Don't forget that, in most cases, you only need one of these apps.

1. Product reviews by Shopify

The best Shopify product review apps in 2024: Product reviews by Shopify

The first option is called Product Reviews, and this will be the best option for you if you're on a budget.

Do you know why?

Because this app is created by Shopify itself and it's free to use!

The only downsides of this app are that you don't have that many features. For example, you can't add reviews with pictures.

2. Loox

The best Shopify product review apps in 2024: Loox

The first paid Shopify app that you can use for this is called Loox.

Loox has a lot more features available for you than the free product reviews app by Shopify, but the downside is that you will need to pay a monthly fee for this app and the app that I will show you below.

But in return for that monthly fee, you will get a lot of features that you can use to get and display your reviews on your Shopify store.

Plus, you can even use Loox to easily display reviews on your homepage.

3. Stamped.io

The best Shopify product review apps in 2024: Stamped.io

And the other option that you can go for if you want a paid Shopify product reviews app is called Stamped.io.

This is another awesome app that has tons of features available for you so you can take your reviews to the next level.

One of the great features of Stamped.io is that you can easily add extra forms to your reviews.

Here is an example of how that will look like on a Shopify store:

You can easily send product review reminder emails with the paid reviews apps I showed you above.

For example, this is what it will look like for Stamped.io:

As you can see, you can use email, Facebook messenger, and SMS to send your product review reminders with this app.

The great thing about both Stamped.io and Loox is that you can integrate with Aftership.

If you do this, then you can set up the product review reminder emails to be sent after a certain trigger happened in Aftership. For example, if the product is delivered.

Another great benefit of collecting reviews is that you can showcase them in a so-called review page.

A review page is basically a page that contains all or most of the reviews that you got.

These pages are usually called “Reviews”, “Happy Customers”, “Our Reviews”, “Feedback”, and there are many more variations to it.

If you're interested in learning more about how to create one for your Shopify store, then I suggest reading the article I linked to below:

How to get product reviews if you don't have any sales yet?

Alright, so now you know how to add and collect product reviews on your Shopify store, and you know why reviews are so important for ecommerce stores.

But how to get reviews if you don't have any customers yet?

Well, then I got some tips for you below! I also included a separate heading below with an extra tip in case you're dropshipping.

  • Free product or big discount. Give away the product in exchange for a review. Although keep in mind that they can just take the offer and never give a review. A way to deal with this is to give a discount or their money back after they have placed a review.
  • Use a loyalty program. You can use a loyalty program like Smile.io to give loyalty points for product reviews. This is also a great way to get more repeat customers.
You can get products reviews if you don't have any sales yet by using a loyalty program like Smile.io. This is a screenshot of their homepage
  • Use your customer service. Try to use your customer service team to get reviews from the people that contacted your store. This works great as people respond better to personal connections than other types of automated outreach.
  • Social media. If you use social media to attract traffic and engage with customers, then it's also a great place to get reviews. For example, you can pin a post on Facebook and add Instagram highlights to announce and promote your rewards program.

Another option, once you got some reviews, is to share the reviews on your social channels and express your sincere appreciation to motivate others to leave a review as well.
  • Wait for customers. The last option is to just wait until you have customers and send them an email via one of the paid review apps I showed you above, asking if they like the product and if they could leave a review.

You can also give them a reward so that they are more likely to review your product, something like a discount code.

This way, you will have reviews that are basically for the same product. You just need to make the decision if you want that or not. Not everyone is comfortable doing this because it's like faking your reviews.

If you do decide to import reviews from AliExpress, then you can use the apps above, or you can use the specially made Ali Reviews app for this.
