DUNGEONS & DRAGONS 2021 Book Releases Bring MAGIC and More Dragons

Now that D&D Live on G4 has wrapped up, we have the Dungeons & Dragons news you might have missed in all the excitement! The rest of 2021 will see three new books from Wizards of the Coast set in worlds that might sound familiar to TTRPG veterans. Whether you want to head to the Feywild, get a taste of Dragonlance, or enter the world of Magic: The Gathering—or all three!—you’ll find a book you’ll want to explore in your next D&D campaign. Let’s roll.

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight (September 2021)
The Witchlight Carnival has come to town.

Wizards of the Coast/Katerina Ladon

A trip to the Feywild! What could possibly go wrong? Rife with Something Wicked This Way Comes vibes, The Wild Beyond the Witchlight takes adventurers to a colorful carnival unlike any other:

Once every eight years, the fantastic Witchlight Carnival touches down on your world, bringing joy to one settlement after the next. Its owners, Mister Witch and Mister Light, know how to put on a good show. But there’s more to this magical extravaganza than meets the eye!

Renowned Wizard of the Coast Chris Perkins took the lead on the first official adventure set primarily in the Feywild. Two new player races, faeries and rabbit folk, and new character backgrounds just might entice you to enter the carnival. Longtime fans of D&D will also be delighted by the return of Warduke, Strongheart, Kelek, and other classic D&D characters from the 1980s. Look for the Witchlight Carnival to magically appear on September 21, 2021.

Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons (October 2021)
A turtle great wyrm attacks unlucky sailors.

Wizards of the Coast/David Auden Nash

Yes, that Fizban! While Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons isn’t a Dragonlance setting or campaign book, there are some hints of Krynn to be found in this monster manual:

What is the difference between a red dragon and a gold dragon? What is dragonsight? How does the magic that suffuses dragons impact the world around them? Here is your comprehensive guide to dragons, filled with the tips and tools Dungeon Masters and players need for their encounters with these dangerous magical creatures.

New dragons. Dragon character options. Dragon lairs. Dragon bestiary. If it’s got dragons, it’s in this book. This dragon hoard can be opened at your friendly local game store on October 19, 2021.

Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos (November 2021)
Strixhaven students go on an adventure.

Wizards of the Coast/Zoltan Boros

Enroll now in the Strixhaven school of magic! Described as “YA meets D&D” and drawn from the multiverse of Magic: The Gathering, adventurers are all chosen ones in this adventure book:

The greatest minds in the multiverse meet at Strixhaven University. Professors convey fantastic secrets to eager students, and life on campus is frenetic. But danger lurks even here. Campus hijinks mix with mishaps and sinister plots, and it’s up to you to save the day.

Four adventures, even more player options including a new race of owlfolk, and so much more are waiting for new students to discover. Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos begins the school year on November 16, 2021.
